Harris Academy Rainham is working with the Department for Education to deliver a fantastic new Sixth Form Centre for Rainham, to address an identified need for further educational provision in the town. The proposed new Sixth Form will provide state of the art facilities for 400 local young people across two year-groups, delivering first class post-16 education to prepare students for further education, university, training or employment.

ISG Construction has been appointed to build Rainham’s new Sixth Form and following a comprehensive programme of online community consultation, has now submitted a planning application for the building.

Rainham’s new Sixth Form will be built on the site of the changing facilities and disused swimming pool, adjacent to the school sports hall at Harris Academy Rainham. The drab single-storey concrete block will be demolished to make way for a new building incorporating high quality design and materials, housing state of the art learning facilities as well as space for community use. The new Sixth Form will also incorporate new tree planting and landscaping to greatly enhance the school’s frontage onto Wennington Road.

A planning application for the new Sixth Form was been submitted to London Borough of Havering Council in May 2021. Following a lengthy planning process to refine the plans in response to stakeholder feedback, the application has been recommended for approval by Planning Officers at the Council and a final decision will now be made by councillors at a meeting of Havering Borough Council’s Strategic Planning Committee on 6th January 2022. You can view the full planning application and all the technical documents on the Council’s website

Decision date confirmed for Rainham’s new Sixth Form

Harris Academy Rainham and Department for Education are committed to providing a much-needed new Sixth Form for Rainham. £13 million has been set aside to deliver the new Sixth Form and ISG, who have been appointed to build the new state-of-the-art college, submitted a planning application to London Borough of Havering Council in May 2021.

A decision deadline of early August 2021 was originally expected, however the application went through a lengthy planning process, refining the plans in response to feedback from local and statutory consultees. We are delighted to confirm that we have now received a date for a decision that will hopefully enable us to get on with delivering the investment and facilities that Rainham’s young people need and deserve, providing much needed sixth form provision in this area of the borough.

It has been confirmed that our plans will finally be considered at a meeting of Havering’s Strategic Planning Committee on 6th January 2022. At the meeting, the local councillors who make up the Strategic Planning Committee will decide if Harris Rainham Sixth Form can receive planning permission. We are pleased that planning officers at Havering Borough Council have issued a report recommending that the Committee members do approve the plans, but the final decision now rests with the members of the Committee at the meeting on 6th January.

Members of the public are able to attend the meeting of the Committee, which takes place at Romford Town Hall. For information on how you can help ensure a positive outcome at the meeting, please contact us on 01225 667097 or
